About Us

Mountain Paws Pet Resort is a full service facility, serving the East Kootenays and surrounding areas. The business has been in operation for over 15 years, developing a reputation for customer service, excellent care and superior communications. Mountain Paws offers online and phone tools to make booking a breeze!

We understand that your pet is a part of your family and when it comes to caring for your family, it is extremely important to find someone you can trust. Mountain Paws Pet Resort is committed to safety, lots of time at play throughout the day, clean spaces, and supervision of dogs at play always. Our services include doggy daycare, boarding, non-sedation teeth cleaning, baths, and nail trims. We will now also be offering training for pets, from puppy school to specific needs-based training. Our boarding options even include a private suite with staff member to spend the night with your pet!

The team at Mountain Paws are friendly, animal loving, hard working people, who enjoy playing and working with your loved pets. All our caregivers are trained in dog body language, communications, and cues, essentially, we speak “dog”.

The owners of Mountain Paws Pet Resort have been in the pet care industry for over 13 years. They spent 8 years in Chilliwack as owner/operators of Small Frys Doggy Daycare, then purchasing the former Playpen Pet Boarding in Cranbrook in 2018. James and Diana wanted to put their own personal stamp on the business and decided to rename and rebrand the business in 2024.

James Barnett

James has completed a dog training and behavioral psychology course which he used as an official foster for the Dachshund and Friends Rescue team. The dogs with the worst behavioral issues due to abusive pasts were placed with James in his previous business where he used the free range daycare to socialize and rehabilitate over 100 foster dogs who were all placed in forever homes!

James seems to have a natural way with dogs, with dogs trusting and respecting him within a very short period of time. Customers will say “my dog doesn’t like men” or “my dog won’t let you pick them up” and by the end of the day they are either sitting in his lap or following him around everywhere!

Ella – Manager & Large Dog Kennel Supervisor

Ella came on board with Mountain Paws before COVID as a kennel attendant. Her previous experience with her parents’ dog kennel in Quebec and a full working zoo containing big game animals, made her an easy choice for us! She brings work ethic, positivity, attention to detail and a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

Diana Weston

Diana brings a passion for excellence to everything she does. This passion and dedication to excellence contributed to building a well-loved cage free dog daycare and grooming spa in Chilliwack.

Diana started Small Frys Doggy Daycare single handedly 10 years ago. The concept of cage free daycare and overnight stays specializing in small to medium sized dogs was brand new in Chilliwack. It was a slow uphill battle to educate the population on the benefits of such care but slowly the word of mouth spread and Small Frys soon was a household name.

As Small Frys business expanded, James came in as a full-time manager while Diana received grooming training. She now has over a decade of grooming experience, as well as over 5 years experience of non-sedation teeth cleaning after being professionally trained and certified!!

Diana has relaunched this amazing service at Mountain Paws. This procedure not only saves customers time and money but helps ensure that dogs do not have to be sedated more than necessary. It is also often the only alternative for senior dogs who can no longer be sedated due to health problems.

Lucy and Louie

Come Visit Us!

Lucy, Louie and Mae Mae are the personal dogs of James & Diana. You may see Lucy on our website as she works as a chat bot on the side! Louie loves to cuddle and sunbathe, as well as bark at the big dogs! Mae Mae is a rescue dog that James adopted after she lost her whole family in a tragic accident. Even though she has heart problems and come through cancer, she keeps on trucking and will be seen snuggling in James’s lap at the front desk! She also helps out as James’ assistant in the Penthouse!
